PATCHES

Although some patches may appear to be iron-on type patches, all patches should be sewn onto the uniforms rather than ironed on.
When putting the uniform top on, the right side of the uniform, which will have the ATA Shield Patch, goes underneath the left side of the uniform. |
VICTORY STARS

Victory stars can either be sewn directly to the Victory Patch or students may choose to collect victory stars without attaching them to their uniforms. Please keep track of the stars you earn in the event they become lost.
|
AFTER CLASS

After attending class please either wash your uniform or hang it up in an open area to allow it to air out properly. |
WASHING

Wash with like colors in cold water and then dry on medium heat in dryer.
Treat the uniform with stain remover if needed, but do not use bleach. (Color-safe bleach may be used if necessary.) |
BELT CARE

While regular washing of uniforms is needed/required, please do not wash your belt. Along with the traditional reasons for not washing a belt, a more practical reason is that the belt may become unusable if washed.
The washing process may cause the belt to get permanent wrinkles and in some cases start to fall apart. If necessary, air out your belt from time to time. A very small spray of Febreeze can also be used from time to time if necessary. |

If you use your sparring gear in class, please air it out when you get home. Avoid leaving wet sparring gear in your bag until the next time you have to use it.
When necessary, clean with a washcloth and warm, soapy water. Air-dry thoroughly.
In the past, Febreeze has worked well to help eliminate odors, and Clorox wipes have helped to sanitize safety gear after use. With items such as Clorox wipes, the sparring gear should be first wiped down with the Clorox wipes then wiped down with a wet cloth to remove any residue.
Use a permanent marker to write your name or initials on your safety gear. A silver marker usually works well on the black safety gear. |

| 1. Begin by wrapping your belt around you from behind, the ends of the belt facing front. |
2. Wrap the right side over the left and pull through to begin the knot. |
|
|
| 3. Wrap the right side under the left and pull through to complete the knot. |
4. When finished, make sure the ends hang evenly and that your stripes are on the correct side.* |
| *(For white belts, knowledge stripes should be on the right side. For other color belts, the knowledge stripes should be on the left side and rank (decided) stripe should be on the right side.) |

The first picture from the top is of the "decided" or rank stripe that will be on the right side of the belt when worn. This stripe is placed on the belt farther from the tip than the knowledge stripes.
The second picture is of the "decided" or rank patch for Tiny Tigers.
The third, fourth, and fifth pictures are of the different stages of earning the three knowledge stripes on a belt for each rank. |
